We’re pleased to inform you that Microsoft has implemented a fix addressing the shared mailboxes issue in OWA v4 and v5. We’ve verified the solution in our test environments and anticipate that our customers will also experience smooth functionality.
If you do encounter any residual issues with shared mailboxes we recommend logging out of your Microsoft account and then logging back in, alternatively try closing & reopening your browser.
Should problems persist, please don’t hesitate to contact us at support@zivver.com.
Thank you for your patience and understanding throughout this process. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused. Wishing you a wonderful weekend!
Yesterday, we successfully implemented a temporary workaround for the issues that affect some shared mailboxes in OWA v4 and v5. With this solution in place, users can now send emails from shared mailboxes without hindrance. If an error arises, users will be given the choice to send the email as unsecured.
However, a permanent resolution requires intervention from Microsoft. After their recent update, certain shared mailbox users lost access to the “REST API”, which is essential for executing email actions in Outlook. The Zivver add-in heavily relies on this REST API. As a result, we can’t introduce any immediate fixes from our end.
We’re in ongoing discussions with Microsoft’s development team. They recognize the significance of the problem for our customers and have engaged experts from their Extensibility and Exchange teams to address the issue. They are committed to finding a resolution promptly.
If you’re affected, there are two options:
Updates will be provided on zivver.info as soon as we have more information. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding and patience.
We have released new versions of OWA to mitigate the biggest pain caused by the issue with shared mailboxes. With OWA v5.0.15 and v4.2.2, the Zivver add-in no longer blocks the sending of emails, but instead shows a proper error. In that dialog, the user can still click “Send Unsecured Mail” to send the email normally.
For secure messages, you can still go to https://app.zivver.com and send them that way.
We continue collaborating directly with the product team at Microsoft to resolve the issue permanently and will share another update no later than tomorrow morning. If you are experiencing this issue, you can either send secure emails through https://app.zivver.com or temporarily disable the Zivver add-in for shared mailboxes until the situation is resolved.
Again, we thank you for your continued patience as we focus on resolving this issue, and apologize once more for the inconvenience caused. Please reach out to support@zivver.com if you have any questions about this.
We are collaborating with Microsoft to resolve the issue with shared mailboxes in OWA v4 and v5. Microsoft is reviewing their latest update on their side, and in the meantime Zivver is working on a fix to make normal email possible again from shared mailboxes. Another update will be posted on zivver.info when more information is available, but no later than end of day today.
Zivver confirmed that not all user accounts seem to be affected by the issue. However, it is unclear what causes only some users to be affected. If you are experiencing this issue, you can either send secure emails through https://app.zivver.com, use the Outlook desktop client, or temporarily disable the Zivver add-in for shared mailboxes until the situation is resolved.

We are currently in touch with Microsoft’s product team to help them understand the issues our customers are facing in OWA shared mailboxes, and with that information and a test account from our side, they are currently working on further investigation / fixing the issue.
Meanwhile, we have made progress on a workaround to create a workable situation again, in case Microsoft’s efforts don’t lead to a quick enough resolution. We will continue working on this, apart from our cooperation with Microsoft.
Unfortunately, we were unable to resolve the incident today, as we are still dependent on actions by Microsoft, but we continue our efforts to get everything up and running as soon as possible. We will provide another update tomorrow (Thursday) by 10am at the latest.
We found that the issue with shared mailboxes in OWA v4 and v5 is likely caused by an change Microsoft made to the Outlook Web Access environment last week. This change seems to cause OWA to not correctly transfer information about shared mailboxes to add-ins. This prevents the Zivver add-in from loading correctly, thus blocking the send process.
We have raised this bug with Microsoft (link: https://github.com/OfficeDev/office-js/issues/3622) and are urging for a quick fix. In the meantime, we are also investigating workarounds we could implement ourselves on short notice.
If you are affected by this issue, you can send secure emails through https://app.zivver.com, use the Outlook desktop client, or temporarily disable the Zivver add-in for shared mailboxes until the situation is resolved.
We will post another update today by the end of the day.
Please contact support@zivver.com if you are experiencing this issue or if you have any other questions.
